Nursery Layout and Facilities

The Nursery is carefully planned to provide each age group with superb equipment and activities to suit their development stage.

From Sensory play equipment in the baby room through to our beautiful outside play area School House is a completely child focused environment and care and attention is given at all times to keeping facilities at the highest standard.

Our staff in every room provide in depth weekly activity plans to fit in with the time of year and the age of the children.

Special occasions never pass by unnoticed at School House as we ensure that activities are carefully planned throughout the year to involve children with Birthdays, Easter, Christmas, Diwali and all the changing Seasons.

Our play house, Bumble Bee Cottage allows for exploration of new environments for all ages, We set the scene for a variety of role play situations with different monthly themes.

Outside play is encouraged at School House throughout the Nursery and our play areas include the 'School House Express' play train, Water Play and Sand Pit and for the older children we have an abundance of tricycles in their own self contained areas.

The layout of the nursery is carefully planned out to enable children to grow and journey through their own personal development stages, experiencing a wealth of variety and stimulation along the way.

  • Baby Room & Discovery Room

Our first floor is dedicated to the care of babies and young toddlers giving them a calm, quiet environment in which to settle into their daily routines and play.

Extra care is taken to introduce babies to Nursery. By giving loving attention and care in our nurturing, calm environment, our trained and experienced staff will leave you, the parent, confident that all your babys needs are being met.

Each child is allocated a key person with whom you and your child will build a special bond and all children starting at School House are offered two settling in sessions to give you all the opportunity to get to know each other, discuss your special requirements and ask any questions regarding the care we provide.

Babies gradually develop onto the Discovery Room where a variety of equipment is available to help the childrens growing independence and curiosity.

Sand, water, paint and many more exciting activities are introduced gradually and appropriately.

A range of indoor and outside activities are planned to encourage the development of cognitive skills and stimulate physical development. Language and communication begin to blossom in the Discovery Room encouraged by our trained staff.

  • The Construction Room

On the ground floor of School House age groups are carefully divided so we can carefully introduce their development activities. Children are transitioned to their next rooms when we feel their development has reached a point when they can be further developed.

The Construction Room provides a gentle introduction to the daily structure of Nursery life following on from the Baby and Discovery rooms. The Construction room is equipped to provide a wide range of appropriate activities for the children aged between rising 2 and 2.5 years old.

Examples of play in the Construction Room would include 'small world' toys, construction to encourage fine and gross motor skills, and a huge variety of arts and crafts.

  • The Home Room

The Home Room provides a natural progression for the children where activities are extended to allow more in-depth investigation and experimentation. The emphasis is still always on play for the children based in this room who are aged between 2.5 and 3 years.

We encourage learning through a diversity of hands on activities such as sand, water, painting, collage, cookery and opportunities for exploration. Our extensively equipped home corner ensures the children experience vital social skills through imaginative play.

  • The School Room

Our Conservatory creative areas are completely self contained to cater for children aged between upwards from 3 years until they leave us for School.

Here they are introduced to all the necessary skills required to give them the educational building blocks for their future, as well as all the hands on activities such as cookery, painting School Room children will also be well prepared for their next step to school with pre-reading, writing skills and numerical concepts.

  • Breakfast & After School Club

    Breakfast Club.

We offer a Breakfast Club from 7.30am until 8.35am when school starts.

Our After School Club team offer a choice of cereals, milk and fruit juice, in a relaxed sociable environment within the school dining room. The children are offered serene activities during their time with us, to gently get them ready for the day ahead.

The Out of School Club runs during school term time between 3.15pm and 6.00pm

The clubs aim to provide a safe, friendly and secure environment where a variety of activities are offered including arts, crafts, games, sport and drama. The children are also given the opportunity to relax or read in a "quiet" area.

    After School Club
We have 3 staff who work solely with the After School Club children to ensure that each child has optimum support and encouragement in the development of their play and social skills. The after School Club Team all work together to support the Every Child Matters framework through their Early Years Foundation Stage planning, and realise the importance for children to be given the opportunities to reach their full potential.

We offer both indoor and outdoor activities and experiences, and throughout their time at the club the children have the opportunity to select from various activities including art and craft, board games, draughts, air hockey, construction kits, jigsaws, card games computing and TV (which is monitored and limited). There is also an area where children can simply relax and socialise with their friends after a busy day at school. The spacious grounds provide plenty of opportunities for a variety of outdoor activities.

As the facility is on the school site, children attending school run clubs may still attend the Out of School Club later on.

Light snacks are served at 4.15 for the children that consist of sandwiches, filled pitas, dried fruits, home made biscuits, wraps, fruit, etc.
